Describe each of the step of the journey to someone who is unaware of the Hero's Journey concept.

Step 1 / 2 - The Ordinary World and The Call to Adventure

  • A hero’s journey is a process in which is a cycle that goes in a circle. This journey will include Treasure, Love, challenges, and solutions. In mythology there are a lot of myths and stories that tell a hero's journeys, and they follow these steps. In the beginning of the journey is the “The Ordinary World”, this is where the hero would depart from the world that he knew. This includes the characters home, backgrounds of who they are. The next step in a hero's journey would be how the hero was first called to the adventure. The character would have a background of what their life is like, and their characteristic. This being having emotes toward something meaningful, hatred, or even hopefulness. This being wanting to get revenge, receiving a note, their destiny, complicated situations and much more. (139)

Provide an example from a television show/movie/book story line that is an example of each step of the journey.

  • An example of a hero’s journey would be any movie or book. Let's take “John Wick” for an example. In the movie the story started out with John Wick losing his wife “Helen” to cancer, he received her final gift which turns out to be a dog. This is the 1 step in which the story tells the settings. During the time John Wick started to bond with the puppy. He started to grow attached to the puppy and had a sense of finally recovering from his loss of his wife. Then one day while getting gas he was approached by a Russian boss' son named Losef Tarasov. After John wick denied selling the car to the son. Later that night the Russian’s follow John home and was attacked and beaten close to death and even killed his puppy and stole his car. This is the moment when John was “Called to his Adventure”.  (154)

Describe a situation in your own life where you have experienced these steps.

  • In my Ordinary World or life, I would be waking up early around 3am-7am, depending on if I have work in the morning. My routine would be wake up, take a shower, make myself breakfast, then would start working on school assignments. Depending on my days I only have school on Tuesday and Thursday. If I ended up not having to go to school, I would work out for 2 hrs. After that I would make myself lunch and head to work. I work every day depending on what day of the week it is. I work closing 6hr shifts on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Sunday would be the one day I work at 3 am. After finishing work, I would come home and eat dinner and work on more assignments. After finishing on some hw. I would end my day with some YouTube before going to bed. My “Call to Adventure” would be going to work or school. I'm pursuing my education and studying in cyber security. I work full time at work to maintain my financial status and pay for basic necessities and bills.  (184)

Describe what it was like for you to complete these steps, despite any difficulties.

  • I complete these steps or tasks very easily. It's been part of my routine all my life, but I learn to perfect it better every time and make it more effective. There are sometimes where I would face difficulties and have to work around it. For example, working on assignments, sometimes I would stay extra hours at work, and this would cause less time for me to study or do assignments. I would also study materials for a test ahead of time to get a better understanding and advantage. (90)

What did you learn about yourself as a result of this experience?

  • I learned alot about myself as a result of this experience. The first one is knowing how every story has a hero's path no matter what the theme is. In every book,Movies, Myths , and other stories, they all have a heroes path just like this one. Each one is completely different from others and have different goals, challenges, and solutions. In my perspective my days are a hero's journey, and so are my family, friends and others. What makes it unique is that we all have different meanings and goals to accomplish at the end of the day.
