Describe each of the step of the journey to someone who is unaware of the Hero's Journey concept.

Step 7 / 8 - Approach to the Inmost Cave and Ordeal

  • In the seventh step in a hero's journey is what we call "approach to the inmost cave". This is where the hero would start to approach there biggest enemy and starting to get into their greatest challenge. Then the hero would meet their greatest enemies or fear and dive right into the heart of it. As the for the eighth step in the journey comes the ordeal, this is where the hero faces his crisis. The hero would face death and even have a moment of failure towards his journey. (90)

Provide an example from a television show/movie/book story line that is an example of each step of the journey.

  • After finding out that a bounty has been placed on him John would have to act fast. John would then find where Viggo stashed his money and other things that are important to him to be able to Lour him out of hiding and try to get information about where his son is.  In which after burning all him valuable he was capture and taken hostage. He was almost killed, but he escaped and capture Viggo to tell him where his son was hiding. Viggo has no choice, but to tell John where his son is, in exchange for his life. After locating where Viggo's son is John would then go to find him and kill him as ravage for his dog that he has lost.  (126)

Describe a situation in your own life where you have experienced these steps.

  • A similar experience in my life that is relate is when I was working on my car and trying to fix the light bulb from the regular yellow ones to a LED version. In order to replace the bulb, I would need to unplug the wiring and unscrew the lights from the slot. Unfortunately, my arms a bit too big and was unable to reach where I need and struggle to do so. That was my version of approaching the inmost cave. In my ordeal case I have given up after spending 2 hours trying to unscrew the bolt. Due to lack of space and sign I have given up and come back to the task later on. (118)

Describe what it was like for you to complete these steps, despite any difficulties.

  • In my case of completing the task it was very difficult. When trying to replace the light bulbs and removing the wires from the start is very easy compared to watching it from the video at first. In the process of being able to unscrew the lights was the hardest part of all. The screw has a certain clip that hold the bulbs in and made it really difficult. The task made it a lot of complicated then it should have, and hinds was the reason it took a lot longer. (91)

What did you learn about yourself as a result of this experience?

  • I learn a lot about myself in this experience, being able to face challenge headfirst and learn from it is very important.  In a hero's journey a lot of hero face their main fear first and don't succeed on their first attempt. Learning from their mistake is where it gives us the opportunity to grow and improving your skills and give you a better chance of not repeating that mistake again. In another case it also helps use develop a greater sense of empathy for others and understanding how to feel and build a better relationship. (96)
