Describe each of the step of the journey to someone who is unaware of the Hero's Journey concept.

Step 9 / 10 - Reward and The Road Back

  • After our hero faces their main enemies and concur their main task. We would then come to our ninth steps in our hero's journey. This is where our hero would receive what they are searching for. This being some items or someone, depending on the situation. Most of the time the reward is physical, meaning some items of some sort. After our hero has received their reward, they would then start to venture back to their ordinary life that they left in the beginning of their journey. (87)

Provide an example from a television show/movie/book story line that is an example of each step of the journey.

  • In the movie, John Wick avenged his dead dog that he received when his wife died and was the main reason that started off the whole hero's journey. He killed Viggo's son for killing his dog and survived multiple enemies that were sent by his father and ended up fighting him to finally end any conflict between the two. John would find himself badly wounded in a veterinarian to heal himself with bandages and medicine that was in the dos shelter. After nearly facing death John would find a Pit-bull that was scheduled to be put down the next day, John seeing this as a new start for himself decided to take the dog. (114)

Describe a situation in your own life where you have experienced these steps.

  • A situation that is related in my life was when I was taking a big test that I been studying for a while back, tends to pay off.  The reward part of this is getting a high passing grade such as an A+. After receiving such a high score, I would use that same studying technique on the next one and being able to perfect it.  The road back tends to be the part where I look over all the choices I made on the test and being able to learn from the mistake and fixing for improvement. (99)

Describe what it was like for you to complete these steps, despite any difficulties.

  • Being able to overcome this task was as difficult as it would be. It was hard to learn it at first, but after being able to learn it in a deeper level and understanding the material made it so much easier. If the task was not hard and difficult, it beats the whole purpose of learning. In order for you to complete one task you would need to do another task before completing that main task. (94)

What did you learn about yourself as a result of this experience?

  • I learn a lot about myself as a result of these experiences. First one is being able to do one thing, is how you do everything. When you do one task with effort and being able to overcome it can help you do another task with more and better effort than before. Another thing I learn is practicing. When you practice at doing something, you tend to get better and be able to learn from your mistakes. In a hero's journey the character tends to make a lot of mistakes. That being failing at a task of some sort but learning from that can help a hero grow and have more confidence when facing it again. (116)
